accommodation at insurance university - not guaranteed at Exeter?

Perhaps a slightly micro question,! I know some univs do guarantee accommodation to all 1st years (subject to exceptions like it not being your first degree etc ...) - including the students who made it their insurance university.

Others do not...... including Exeter I think? In practice is this a problem for students who go to their insurance?

And even more micro, some universities start allocating the accommodation well before a level results - so even if you do have a guarantee as an insurance student, are you left with the less desired places after the results are out? - and in practice is this a problem?

Any info from those who have experience of this with older dc v gratefully received!

University of Hull and Lincoln do guarantee accommodation to all first years.
Ds started Lincoln last Sunday, they delayed allocation of first year accommodation so the insurance and clearing students got halls. We found out exact court, apartment and room details 2 weeks before moving in.

Also the likes of Bradford, Huddersfield, Derby and Teesside claim to guarantee halls to all 1st years.

Off topic, but Lincoln is heavily expanding on and off campus halls, they want to have enough to be able to offer all students accommodation, so cutting out private rent houses.

jeanne16 Southampton say on their website that they guarantee accommodation for all first years whether firm, insurance or through clearing. But I think that is rare now.

Very interesting that some do guarantee all first years - would be interesting to know if that does influence insurance choices.

I think you would really have to be quite a slow walker to take a whole half hour to walk down from the Vale - e.g. Chamberlain to Biosciences is just over a mile. Although when I went with DS1 to his offer holder day, we did manage to walk in a complete circle round one of the other halls on our way back from looking round Shackleton, which certainly slowed our progress...
