How to keep on top of big workload/long hours

Hi
My youngest will be starting uni this month.

She's doing a healthcare course with high contact hours; 9 til 5 most evenings.

She is wondering how to make the most of her time and use her time efficiently both during contact hours and in evenings/weekends.

Does anyone have any advice or experience? Any tips how to cope with the long hours?

Thank you

It is only an hour a day longer than school. How did she organise herself then ?
Presumably, on a healthcare course, she will be in the same boat as her new friends. Many places the students on that sort of course are also housed together, so that is just how the lifestyle will be - she won't be trying to "keep up with" the same lifestyle as someone on a course with only 6 hours contact time a week.

High contact hours means she will be doing much of her learning in class. She may be expected to do reading to prepare for class. The staff should be guiding the students on how to prepare and what is expected.

Most universities work on system, based on a notional 40 hour week. So basically she can treat it like a 9-5 job, with additional work perhaps needed at times such as for assessment. Evenings / weekends (at least one day a weekend) are for socialising etc.

I say this because there is a real problem in universities at present with perfectionism: students trying too hard and burning out. She needs some relaxing time after her intensive days.
