DS DOES need a clothes airer in Halls, doesn't he?

Got two weeks to go! I'm being fairly relaxed about what DS takes, having carefully read what others say about the amount of loving sourced, personally hand-selected gear that gets stolen, 'borrowed' and trashed in halls- so a fair bit of stuff will be second hand- but our camping clothes airer is really too big and cumbersome, so I'm thinking about a narrow, smaller one- but he will need it, won't he? If only for wet towels!

Flowers - neither of our DC could open the windows in their first year accommodation. They had very small ventilation shafts. One was in a basement and the other high up in a converted office block. As for hanging clothes up around the room... on what?

The drivers at my dd uni were super hot and shrank her first load. She lived the airer I made her take.

Airers take up hardly any room when closed up. You could put one on the bed during the day (assuming clothes have a thorough spin after washing so aren't dripping although a large plastic bin bag could go under the airer. I use my airer several times a week (both keen cyclists) and my son's is up whenever I visit

I bought my Dd a compact (3kg) tumble dryer from Gumtree for £30, she can use it as another surface for her stuff and chuck the hose out the window when she needs to use it to dry clothes. She's not allowed to dry clothes on airers in her room.

Choc
Some halls have a maximum electrical load permitted in the rooms. I seem to remember that some powerful hairdriers could not be used in one of DC's halls, so it might be worth checking.

My halls of residence had huge airing cupboards wrapped around the legendary huge hot water tanks. It was bliss, and you could run a deep, piping hot bath in thirty seconds.

I can't imagine a tumble drier being allowed in a room - many (most?) halls won't let you have a mini fridge in the room.

PerspicaciaTick · 05/09/2018 19:39

What happens to the tumble drier when you have to empty your room at the end of each term?

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 05/09/2018 20:00

It's a room in a private let so she doesn't have to empty the room each term. It is in the lease that she can't dry clothes on airers as it leads to dampness in the (old) buildings. We'll just flog the tumble dryer on Gumtree next year. We haven't asked the LL for permission, but he's not likely to appear too often.
