Hello

I would be very grateful for any feedback on Trinity College, Oxford, particularly for Law [UG Jurisprudence)

(I posted recently about Queen's College and am very appreciative of the feedback received.

Not again - Aurea. You can easily look at a map, do the research yourself and take the advice on Queens with regard to pooling and how tutorials are organised. The choice of college makes so little difference. If you really cannot spare a weekend to visit and see for yourselves, you will have to accept that everything said on here will be second hand info and not necessarily what your DS will want. I gave you the sizes of the colleges and no college will be dreadful will it? All are wonderful! Trinity has lovely gardens and is handy for the Sheldnian Theatre. It’s near Blackwells and is central. Don’t start a thread on Brasenose!

I also saw your other thread, and I don't think there's much point asking about different colleges. College will organise tutorial teaching, University organises lectures and exams. The number of students per subject, and the overall feel of the college will change from year to year, dependant on intake. College really doesn't matter that much, and he may not get his first choice anyway. I say this as an Oxford alum, and as someone who has worked for a university and more than one college. The most important thing for your child's success at Oxford is their own independence, resilience and hard work. Let them make their own decisions, and stop worrying. It will be fine.

Sorry that should read for the University i. e. Oxford

Aurea · 29/08/2018 17:20

Sorry. I will leave it now.

I just feel helpless with the lack of support and experience from the school and our distant location.

Thank you for your help earlier.

What will be, will be.....

Oh but I forgot to say on your other thread sorry - don't worry about the state school thing. The majority of students at Oxford are from state schools. The ratio isn't as good as it should be, but it's still majority state. I actually went after an Access course at an FE college, and was only the second person they sent to oxbridge. I had a great time. Good luck to your ds!

HMC2000 · 29/08/2018 17:25

Oh those crossed Aurea! Ask anything you want - I just wanted to say don't put too much emphasis on college choice. The admissions office at Oxford are really happy to answer queries too.

My DD had no help from her school either. We just wandered round looking at colleges and went to an open day . You might be remote but you are not really helping yourself by not travelling to Oxford because it really does make up for the lack of interest and advice by the school. Therefore I think it’s important that you and your DS go to open day if there are still places. Nearly everyone takes a day off school to do this. It is allowed! Even if you cannot make the open day, not visiting for a weekend to see what and where makes him tick just doesn’t make sense. Some people come from Usa and China to visit. It really will be so much easier if you visit, preferably on the open day. Or defer applying until after results for 2020 entry as he is young.

Replied on the other thread OP.

How about Magdalen?

goodbyestranger · 29/08/2018 22:53

Agree about going to visit - good advice from Bubbles.

You actually have virtually no control over where you might end up; my DC got allocated a college I had not researched in the slightest or that we had been to see.
