How do you find out if a course has been in clearing in the past few years?

And if it is does that mean it went into clearing after having already accepted reduced grades from existing offer holders?

eatyourveg · 29/05/2018 21:07

No problem Skyr2
What is the subject and what uni or type of uni (RG, red brick, post 1992 etc) are you looking for?

Gosh Eatyourveg, I never even knew this was possible. Could you possibly look up D100 which is Vet Med? There are only a few schools. Dd1 is killing herself trying to get the condition of 3 A’s and I read on the Student Room that it HAS gone to clearing in the past but find that very hard to believe. She would be happy to go anywhere but The schools are Edinburgh, Bristol, Nottingham, Liverpool, RVC, Surrey- Also Glasgow and Cambridge though they seem less likely as they prefer maths and she hasn’t got that.

Her 2 are Ed and Lpool, so I guess if she gets say AAB, she should look for leniency at the remaining 4 of Bristol, notts, RVC and Surrey? I am very confused, not a native Brit myself.

Hi eatyourveg, saviour of the half term fretting mother. So amazing you have done this! Memo to self for daughters coming along in 2 yrs time, will definitely try to keep clearing data. Would you have info on C100 , Exeter Biological sciences?

eatyourveg · 30/05/2018 20:21

Will look them up tomorrow and get back to you both via pm

Scabbersley · 04/06/2018 21:52

Any Sports Science degrees in clearing @eatyourveg?

Are you looking for anywhere in particular? Let me know the course code you want and the type of place your dc is considering and I will pm you with the vacancies.

C4T5 · 07/06/2018 13:48

eatyourveg, I’ve just sent you a pm about G100. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us. It’s very kind if you.

Bluemazarine · 08/06/2018 17:01

Hi Eat, would you mind sending me a pm about G400 (Computer Science) - particularly the courses especially Russell Group that don't require A level maths on entry? Thanks so much for your help!

titchy · 08/06/2018 19:21

especially Russell Group that don't require A level maths on entry?

I hope you and eat don't mind me saying but that's a bit cheeky - you don't really expect her to trawl the RG websites checking entry qualifications surely? How about you check, then list the institutions. Eat is very very generous indeed and I'm sure you don't want to burden her further.

Bluemazarine · 08/06/2018 21:11

Sorry titchy, I didn't realise you were policing the requests Smile. I actually thought I was helping narrow it down as this is the first time I've gone through this - but what do I know eh? Lesson learnt...

eatyourveg · 09/06/2018 18:36

Hi @bluemazarine - don't worry Smile
If you haven't seen the lists before you wouldn't necessarily know that they comprised of. They don't show entry requirements - it is essentially about 20 pages full of code codes.

First I would look for computer science, then under that, it lists all the institutions that have vacancies in that subject area. Each univerisity's entry then shows the course codes that have vacancies so if you are not looking for a specific university, I would check each uni shown and look for G400 and make a note of where it appears.
Then I would pm you the answer and you would then need to check if the institution required A level maths - that info is freely available so anyone can access it - you don't need me for that bit
Hope that helps - I will get back to you tomorrow via pm

madnskint · 09/06/2018 20:15

Any D100 in clearing ever? PleaseSmile

eatyourveg · 09/06/2018 22:10

@madnskint - Glasgow last year and Surrey in 2009 - thats it I'm afraid. I only know this as I recognised the code from a vetmed search I did a couple of weeks ago for another mnetter.

Bluemazarine · 10/06/2018 08:39

Thanks so much @eatyourveg - I pm'd you Friday to apogise in case I'd unknowly been a bit vague! Not sure if you got the message as I've never pm'd before? We're particularly looking for Liverpool, Newcastle, Swansea and possibly Manchester met if that narrows it down? Thanks so much!

madnskint · 10/06/2018 09:00

Thank you eatyourveg that’s pretty much as I feared.

top2patooties · 10/06/2018 17:11

Hello @eatyourveg :)

If you have time this week, would you mind checking LL23 for me (Politics & Sociology) - Uni's like Warwick, Sheffield, Manchester, Lancaster?
Much appreciated..

eatyourveg · 11/06/2018 08:05

All done and pm'd to you

Bluemazarine · 11/06/2018 11:37

Thanks for the pm!

WalkingTed · 11/06/2018 13:07

I'm a long way off need g this info as my dd is in year 7 at the moment. However, and please excuse my ignorance, why would I need to refer to past years clearing lists?

Disclaimer... Clearly I never made it to uni (so am totally clueless) however sincerely hope my dd wants to follow this path.... Am happy to support her in whatever decision she makes😊

eatyourveg · 11/06/2018 14:04

No you don't need to refer to clearing lists at all if your dc's firm or insurance accepts them on results day.

If they don't, then the vacancies for that year will be online and in the press on results day. They stay online until the end of clearing which is sometime in October. Some people find it useful however to see which courses tend to come up frequently, simply so that dc can have a plan b should they miss a grade on a firmed offer or to get an idea of how likely somewhere might accept a dropped grade although there are no guarantees for that. So knowing that the uni has historically had vacancies can be of some reassurance to people such as pp here . You can't predict what will come up especially as clearing has changed hugely in the last couple of years with unis who have previously never used clearing, now publishing vacancies.

ds1 went through clearing to find a more prestigious uni where he wouldn't have met their standard offer but having seen that the course he wanted had been in clearing for the past few years, gave it a stab and he got in.
ds3 looked at the lists from the other point of view - when he was narrowing down his choices, he wanted to know which places never came up.

WalkingTed · 11/06/2018 14:12

Thank you so much for your reply. All much clearer now.
