Hi all. DS1 who is quite hard to engage and motivate has shown more than his usual less thane even passing interest in applying for UCFB ( he is in year 12). This is all rather new fangled so I am keen to know if anyone on here has some actual experience of or insight into the university?

The prospectus and website look fantastic and we met a nice young man from there last night . But obviously this would be the case!

My dd has a friend at Wembley. I have only chatted to him briefly about it but he is doing well and enjoying the course.

Thank you! It looks like some of the alumni have gone on to really great jobs so I hope that's a good sign.

Academically I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole sorry. £50k of debt for a second rate degree...

That said if it motivates then go with cautious encouragement - and maybe think about applying elsewhere with a decent set of grades.

A more general business type degree would be far more useful and applicable to a much wider range of employment opportunities.

I had to look up the initials - I had not heard of the place even though ds is doing sport and exercise science. I think I would be looking at the employability stats to see where the graduates end up. I assume it is a fairly new set up? Do the UCFB courses cover the same sort of modules as the more traditional/well known universities?

Personally I would be a bit nervous about ds applying there, the courses are all football orientated and that is rather limiting when it comes to employment and I would be asking if spending 3x £9k would bring a decent enough return.

Then again if you want a specialist institution, perhaps thats the place to be. I assume it must have some very good links within the industry in terms of work placements and graduate destinations. At the end of the day your ds is going to do best at a place where he is happy.

It has excellent links with industry and some of the graduates have got jobs that are like hen's teeth : doing the OPTA stats for Leicester City, working for ESPN in the USA, working at Real Madrid... they also do work placements etc

But , yes, it's not a proper uni in some people's eyes but that sort of thing may not matter so much in the sports industry. And its entry grades go up to 128 UCAS points. The course tend to be around BCC to CCC which is my DS's general suggested profile.

Living in London is more of a concern for me!

By the way titchy it isn't necessarily business he wants to do!
