Q-Step courses

Has anyone had a DC that has chosen to do a Q-Step course at uni?

DD has decided on Politics but is thinking seriously of doing it with Quantitative Methods either at Warwick, Bristol, Edinburgh or Exeter.

The courses seem quite new so there is little info around.

It is not entirely new to have social sciences based courses that include quantitative methods - after all, places like LSE and Cambridge already have a very quantitative content in their courses (and are not part of the Nuffield Q-step initiative).

It is also often an option to take quantitative modules as part of the degree. For example, somebody doing politics could easily take "quantitative" modules from economics.

So I am not sure I would pick one of the universities that is part of the Q-step programme, particularly. As you say, these courses are new so may well have some teething issues.

Also, the Q-step courses are not necessarily in the places that are best at quantitative social sciences. Southampton has several ESRC funded centres of research in quantitative social sciences, but is only an affiliate to the Q step programme, perhaps because they already run their own quantitative social science programmes, particularly at Masters level.
