explaining about how the amount knocked off the means-tested household income they look at for the second child is nowhere near the amount they actually expect you to top up the first child with! Not really a secret, but worth repeating every now and again for anyone who hadn't already realised.

Triplets + 1 here , thanks for this , it is our situation , never felt”unlucky “ to have triplets but the many changes to student finance have left us unprepared for the costs we now face .

I am always amazed this is not talked about more. We may have two at uni at the same time, and we don’t want to be broke so close to retirement. So we are aiming to put aside the money for this over the next 3-4 years in preparation.

I know a family where the first child did not apply for a maintenance loan as worked a lot in the holidays & then the second child was refused one because his sibling hadn't had one!

We had a two year overlap of DC at uni. There is very little allowance made for the fact. Having said that if you have a low income they will each receive more loan. They both went to unis in areas with reasonably cheap accommodation so we topped the loan up to the maximum and they managed fine.
