Hi... my DD 15 is really clear she wants to go to a Canadian university, probably Toronto... having never been to the country.

Her reasons are fairly cogent - appeal of English-speaking country, ethos more atune to hers than USA, adores wilderness... and good education. ... especially appeal of minoring and majoring, which would suit her (with focus on Psychology).

But what is it really like? And how do costs compare?

And yes, although welcoming her dynamism I'm afraid I may lose her to another country.....

My daughter is currently in her first year at the University of Victoria. She’s loving it and it’s very outdoorsy. 10 mins walk to the beach, surf club, sailing club, ski club and lots of hiking. There are lots of opportunities to do a year / semester in Europe - I’m sure it goes both ways.

my dd attended UVic :) I did as well though via correspondence for an upgrade from my diploma to a degree...
hubby a UofA grad
with son who attended colleges in BC and AB....
The web sites are fabulous you will easily find the international cost.
Getting into universities is not difficult BUT you need to make accommodations a priority (look into that and reserve it whether you have an offer or not!!!)
Canada has several highly rated uni's
A psych degree however....a dime a dozen and with universities so easy to get into and a gazillion grads you can't do much with that area of study.

lazydog he's doing Geography and Environmental Science and loves the flexibility of the course and how it's assessed...mixture of lab reports/ essays/ exams and ability to choose a totally unrelated topic, philosophy to make up the points for his degree
Dundee is a great Uni.....not too big,, easy access to other cities in Scotland, by the coast ....undergoing some much needed redevelopment on its waterfront, but looking great ( cheap living costs compared to other cities)...seem to be lots of international/ exchange students
Consistently does well in student satisfaction polls and university subjects....in top 30 in UK and top 200 World...( top 50 for Unis under 50; yrs Old)
My eldest dd also graduated (Philosophy )from Dundee! - thoroughly enjoyed her time....message me if you need any more info

yup doing a year over there as part of a 4 year UK course feels much more feasible - and enticing - on so many fronts - Impressed by how many places offer it... and that it doesn't cost the earth! Phew... there is a reasonably priced appealing option for a girl who's somehow got Canada under her skin....

And first step, renting out our London house this summer and going over there....
