Progression to second year of university degree

My dc has passed everything with high marks apart from one exam. Good health for all exams except one.

Unfortunately was very ill for first sitting of this one exam and so was entered for re-sit instead. No problem at this stage.

At the scheduled re-sit dc got sent by exam officer to A&E with possible broken bone from accident just before exam.. Aaaargh! Begged to take exam but not allowed.

Upshot is that dc can't progress until exam taken and next exam isn't until summer 2018. So a whole year wasted despite passing 95% of course with high marks. University completely happy that dc can continue but it will have to be a whole year later. A year wasted and will be split up from friends on course.

Can anything be done?

It is frustrating WaveWash. She has appealed to see if anything can be done along those lines but universities have very rigid rules.

The rules are there for a good reason but there is nothing to cover this particular set of circumstances.

Appealing Has the situation remained the same for your daughter or was she successful in her appeal? It seems very harsh. Just be aware if your daughter does decide to spend a ski season in the Alpes with a British ski company she most probably won’t speak any or maybe just a little of that target language. She’d be better either au-pairing or trying to get a job in a bar or shop owned by eg someone French.

Sorry to hear this, it's tough. My DD was terrified in a resisting case she failed it and had to wait a year.

But are the uni refusing because to allow her to take the exam now as it would mean someone would actually have to write a new exam specifically for her? Surely you can't just rake an exam late that several people could potentially have told you the answers to or given you a heads up on what it entailed?
