I sent DS off with another one of my rejects, this multicooker and he thinks it's a great bit of kit (his phrase). I bought it to experiment with slow cooking and was not impressed!
It's basically just a huge deep frying pan with temperature control and accessories for steaming and deep frying.
So far he's done pork chops, full English including scrambled eggs, beige (!) food like Kievs, and an assortment of frozen things like potato hash, paella and ready-grilled veg. And the lid means smells don't linger. To wash it he just boils some soapy water in it and leaves it to go cold.
He can make pasta (in this pan too, if he feels like it) with a jar of sauce, can use a microwave and likes to buy fresh fruit and salad. His university canteen is also good and cheap so he's only cooking at the weekend or if flatmates want a joint meal.
I'm wary of plunging him into domesticity- studying is his first priority and there is healthy convenience food freely available, like readymade chilled soups or dressed salads which save on time, mental energy and waste.
But I am glad the machine has gone to a good home!
