Which insurance option?

One of my daughters applying this year for geography can't decide on her insurance.

Firm asks for AAA incl A in geography.

Insurance option 1: AAB incl A in geography.

Insurance option 2: AAA with no specified subject, very easy to switch from a geography degree.

She does 4 a levels.

Worringly, last year she got a D in geography ! (Her best subject we all thought).

She would get into option 2 if she gets the same AS.

What shall she do?

Option 2 without a doubt. I assume she is resitting the AS - an A is impossible unless she is.

And why on earth is she doing 4 A levels? Inevitably that will pull her grades down.

Yes, she is resitting to hopefully get an A.

The school force them to do the 4th, but not everywhere takes it so she needed to carry on with the others. It's a good back up hopefully with no exams- not technically an A level, but counts as one for all the above options.

I would recommend Option 2 too.
Quite difficult to go from a D to an A, although will hopefully work out with the resits.

Which option does she prefer? Would she genuinely be happy to go to either on results day? There's no point picking an insurance choice that she doesn't want to go to - it only causes more faff (and wastes valuable time) on results day when she has to phone up the insurance choice and ask to be released into Clearing.

If she'd prefer to go to A over B, and if she missed both her firm and uni A, she'd sooner take her chances in Clearing (hint: it's not how it used to be - there are many, many places available even at the Russell Groups) then pick option A.

If she genuinely loves option B, pick B.

If she's not keen on either, don't choose an insurance at all and do go into Clearing if she doesn't get into her firm.

However, if you think there's a good chance she'll end up in Clearing, then make sure you do your research before results day - it's a stressful day and if you've done research (up to and including visiting open days in June) then it will avoid too-hasty decisions being made.
