Are you doing a part time masters? What sort of hours do you do?

I am going to start a masters in September, but I haven't quite pinned down which is suitable for me yet. In the mean time, I am just wondering what sort of hours I may be doing, both in college in lectures and then at home.

From what I gather, is it usually not more than a day a week in actual lectures?

Thanks

I'm doing a part time masters with the OU. they expect you to put aside about 16 hours a week to do it. I did this for my first assignment, but haven't done anything for last 3 months and I'm still on course to do OK. Luckily I attend the tutorials which are excellent and have chosen a course which I understand!

I did a part time MA over the past few years. Most of the time I did one night at college and one evening's work at home. But then I did a few intensive days close to essay deadlines etc. HTH

I'm doing OU as well, and was also told around 15 hours per week, but more like two hours per week but then two or three days when an assignment due (14 of those and two exams over two years). It was tough timewise, though I was also working full time, and I had to rely on my parents to care for dd at assignment time who was 1 when I started and 4 when I finished the taught part. I'm glad I'm doing it though - just taking a break before my dissertation.

I'm doing about 20 hrs per week, mostly reading, increases to every waking hour not at work or involved in childcare around assessment time!

I did a part-time masters a few years ago at the Institute of Education. I had lectures one evening every week during term time, and then fit all reading/studying/papers around work and home. At the time I had no children so could be quite selfish with my time. Really glad I did it - I love being a student and toy with the idea of a PhD.....

good luck

I have 1 full day at uni, 4 modules over 2 semesters. Total work time on top of that is about 8 hours a week, but each semester is only 14 weeks long, so I get a long break from May - Sept.....untill the dreaded dissertation research!
