Will be applying for 2017? Do they take into account CSA payments, tax credits and child benefits when assessing parental income. They didn't ask the question on the gov.uk student calculator, so I am assuming not?

I had to put maintenance payments in, I couldn't see that they could be avoided, but not tax credits. It didn't matter, though, as my total was well under the minimum of about £25k.

Thanks Ellen. Maintanence only £5 month so not going to skew figures too much. But for the first time in my life I am full time and not in the lowest income bracket. I really want to encourage DD s financial independence at this point.

They didn't want child benefit of tax credits included, that was explicit, I think. Just interest, dividends etc and any other money you receive...

Tip from me ( got it from a thread on money saving expert) it is taxable income that is assessed so if you can afford to pay any extra money into your pension, this lowers your taxable income. I couldn't afford much but managed to increase student loan slightly.
