Missed form choice but 600 UCAS points

DD missed out on her first choice uni by a fraction so we are going to get the paper reviewed.

In the meantime, she did astoundingly well in other subjects, scoring 100% in one subject, 95% in another and also an A* for General.

She's over exceeded her insurance offer by miles. She was so stunned this .owning that she didn't know which way to turn for adjustment places.

Should she withdraw her application and reapply next year for different RG unis? Or go with a friendly non RG uni where she'll (hopefully/probably) get a first?

No Gin that's wrong you can do clearing even if you got into your first choice.

My understanding is that you can only do adjustment if you exceed your firm offer, and you can only do clearing if you don't have any offers.

The last part is not quite correct. If you miss your firm and decide you don't want to take up your insurance place, you can ask the latter to release you into clearing - but they're under no obligation to do so.

OP as it stands she has a place at a decent institution. Over the weekend she'll need to decide whether she wants to take up the RHUL place or withdraw her UCAS application and reapply next year, either to NotLSE following resits or somewhere else based on her existing grades. But it has to be her choice. I think you get that now, based on your last post.

A person can go into clearing even if you get accepted into the firm university but decided they don't want to go to their firm or insurance so they've asked to be released but going into clearing doesn't always guarantee a place.

There are some good places available through clearing. DS got a London RG offer this morning with BBBCC (including GS), having been rejected by a more prestigious London RG. When you read the degree spec he is allowed to select modules from the college he didnt get into! Very happy DS.

Yes, and asking to be released into Clearing means losing the safety net of her insurance too, so that's only worth doing if she definitely doesn't want to go to RHUL.

I suspect I work at her firm choice, feel free to message me (although I have managed to escape the madness this year and am on holiday but happy to help). If it is so, please do heed my warning about resits as I really don't want you to pin your hopes on them being the answer.
