can anybody explain the processes in easy terms.
So much keeps changing and i don't get it. My eldest did it all by himself, ds2 didn't go and I'm looking for if it will be feasible for dd in 6 years time, although it will probably have changed a lot in that time.

How much are fees, what loans or assistance is out there, how much is rent, approximate figures really.

The terms of the student loans keep changing so I wouldn't worry about any details too soon.

An easy way to save which I think might get more popular is to go straight into private student accommodation rather than into University accommodation. It might be a different type of experience but it can save a lot of money. One of my DCs has just signed up for a nice 4 bed house close to his Northern City Uni for £3,300 a year.

I've also been amazed at how little my DC can live off. Bulk cooking, Megabus, flat parties and savvy shopping etc.

There are plenty of skint students around.

6 years is a long way away, she might have completely different ideas what she wants to do then. If she can save some beforehand then it's great but don't be frightened of the loans- if she wants a degree and that's the way then she can choose to go for it.

The place she wants to study is close to Hyde Park, so bet it's a fortune to live near here.

She won't change her mind she's been working towards it since she was 3 years old.
I know she might change ideas on area, but not looking likely at the moment.

Why would she be living near Hyde Park? She can commute like everyone else does surely?

Why don't you use the power of Google and find out how much halls of residence are in London, and average rents? Or go to the Unistats website and look at the particular institution you're interested in.

If so fees are currently 9k ( soon due to increase ) per year and the RAM estimates living costs as £11,500 per year.

She said it was close to HP and said she'd camp in there if she had to.

I don't know London and have never done anything like this before, so even though likelihood things will change, I'd like to know what sort of savings and support we may be looking at.

Depends what you mean by something changing.

Please don't hold out any hope that tertiary education will become few again- ain't gonna happen. Just pray the music conservatoires remain within university remit. If they don't, they might not attract loans at all.

The truth is that an education at any of the MCs is going to be expensive, especially in London. There are some bursaries however.

Savvy musicians go the the 5 UK conservatoires which are not based in London. Only 3 out of 8 are in London.

RAM or RCM if you're serious. London is still the place to be unfortunately.

It depends on what instrument (s) and whose teaching there at the time. They aren't all worth spending such a lot of money on, it depends.
Birmingham just wouldn't be considered, because her Dad could teach her for free better than them.

I'm not so sure about not paying it back due to not earning enough, it depends on what line they go down.
