Full scholarship for uni. Is this possible

I was having a casual conversation with a friend who told me that one of her neighbours DC had received a Full scholarship to a university in th UK. I didn't realise such a thing was possible. I checked on the university' s website and there are entrance exams you can sit to be eligible for a scholarship of £1200 and a number of other scholarships you can combine up to a value of £2700 per year. This university has an entrance tariff of 300 points and I think results of over 320 warrants an excellence scholarship. I saw no reference to full scholarships, my friend might have misunderstood, she isn't as interested in the topic as I am. But has anyone heard of full scholarships being given to high flying students, which aren't publicised on web sites?

Here's a link to other bursaries etc: www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/university-tuition-fees/other-financial-support/other-bursaries-and-scholarships/#

There is also the DTUS scheme - currently paying a £4k bursary per year. This link isn't very informative but gives the basics: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_Technical_Undergraduate_Scheme

There are some companies, particularly the big banks and the likes of KPMG who will offer bursaries through universities which pay students tuition fees. Some linked to working for them afterwards, some not.

I have just started a thread about bursaries. I checked my dd`s bank account tonight to see how she as managing as she hasn't a clue herself and never ever checks! I was pleased to see she was doing ok, enough money left until her Jan payment goes in. Then I realised that last week she had had £330 paid in in the form of a bursary, if she hadn't she would now be in the red! I don't understand why she has been given it and am worried its a mistake and will have to be paid back like her tuition fees and maintenance loan. I have just had chemo today and cant think clearly, so looking to you lovely mums or advice. Thank you.

Could the "scholarship" be a Degree Apprenticeship? The gov/sponsoring company pay the Uni fees plus a salary through the duration of the 4 year program where the student works part time and attends Uni part time and comes out with a Bachelors Degree. It's available for selected courses at selected Unis and can be applied for separately from UCAS. More info at www.prospects.ac.uk/jobs-and-work-experience/apprenticeships/degree-apprenticeships

Tough love here - Long term, teach her - or require her - to attend to her own finances. She's an adult (just) - you shouldn't have to be checking her bank account.

Gosh, I was at university at 17 - if my mother had checked my bank account I'd have been furious!

Triplets, from what I can gather a lot (most) unis offer a bursary which is means tested on parent income. I don't think you have to apply. Check out the site of her uni and compare it to yr income2 yrs ago. Hopefully it is nothing mores sinister that a pleasant surprise!
