Is there any need to be physically in the UK on A level results day....

We anticipate a bit of horse trading.....but can this all be done online/by phone.

Any risks being outside of UK (France) at this time?

I imagine it will "feel" more stressful....

We were touring around the US when DT's got their results last year. No problems. Checked their grades online and the school confirmed by email. Both got their anticipated grades so DT's both rang their chosen Uni and confirmed their places - more for my piece of mind than anything else. We carried on with the holiday and enjoyed it even more !

The other thing to bear in mind, although it may not apply to your son. If you end up with your insurance or a clearing uni, you have to then sort out accommodation.

Just sorting through some papers and came across the enclosures with ds2's A level results last year.

One states that payment for priority remarks is by cash or cheque only and forms need to be obtained from the school's exams office. Other schools may be different but this is one of the reasons why our school strongly advises students to turn up in person on results day. That and the fact that staff are on hand throughout the day to help and advise on the clearing process.

There is also another leaflet which says, if ucasTrack is showing unsuccessful and you are in clearing, don't panic, "Call the admissions team and plead your case! If you can offer up valid circumstantial evidence, or sometimes just demonstrate your commitment, you may be able to win them over. Admissions Tutors have been known to reverse decisions or offer an alternative course in the past on the strength of a telephone call from a student".

I had forgotton about the remark issue. The timescale is tight, my DD was able to get a photocopy of her paper to discuss with the teacher whether to go for a remark, not something you could do from abroad. It was I think within days. Certainly we had to fill a form in and pay practically on the day.

Even though my DD was offered her insurance, a further uni which she had been offered a place originally with rang her on the day in case she wanted to switch choices. So that's a possibility too, and then there might have been more to do re housing etc.

My DS didn't meet his offer or insurance last year (he didn't work hard enough and we knew this was likely) and he rang several unis offering the course he wanted but none would take him.

He was offered a different subject from his Firm Uni and after several days decided to take that.

I am glad we were at home during the whole results day process as when he logged into Track it wasn't immediately obvious what was happening and he had to hotfoot it to school.

Best to be at home, especially if wanting any re-marks, etc.
