Oxford Uni - end of term pick up?

Hi!
I presume this is a bit of a mad scramble! ds1 seems incapable of finding anything out. As far as we can tell, he has to be there on Friday of 8th week, as he still has lectures and stuff that day; probably parties that evening.

But we are fairly certain he must vacate his room by 10 am on the Saturday; along with almost all other undergrads in college.

Any survival tips gained from experience?

I used to stay until the end of 9th or 10th week. Just paid extra rent. I was always in non conference or B&B rooms though. People who were coukd still stay (if they paid), but had to move room.

One price and it gets picked out of the hat? Shock I don't agree that's a good system. We give our DD a fixed amount of money, she then chooses whether to get the ensuite or smaller room at differing price levels, thus either having more spare cash or less but a nicer room. It's all about learning to make choices. Just like we all do.

my DDs term goes on til June. three weeks vacation at Easter.

It's interesting to see the comparison!

Hmmm. It's only about making choices if your parents can afford the extra money for the nicer accommodation. Maybe this is the life lesson!

(Unbelievably, when I was at university in the mid 80s, we were entitled not just to unemployment benefit if we couldn't find a job but also housing benefit during the long vacation - how things have changed!)

My DD has no more extra money than what a student has if their parents are on low incomes. Other than what she herself earns.

It's as if we give her the grant. So she is as in a similar position as possible to those students whose parents are not wealthy. But we then let her chose what to do with the money. If she lives frugally then there is more money left over to do other stuff.

I wanted her to have the decision over whether ensuite or not etc taking account the price differential.
