....is just some tax/stats/admin thing?

It asks for company name, your position there, start and finish dates for last 5 employers.

My son has not had any "official" jobs for a company - he has only done local car washing / babying sitting / dog walking etc - I doubt they want these details? Will he look less as he has not had any proper jobs? will it affect his application?

ds1 didn't have any jobs either so left it blank and had 5 offers so in his case it made no difference whatsoever.

ds3 is wanting to put down a work experience job from last year in the employment section, it was twice a week for 3 months and directly related to his course but he's already mentioned it in his ps. As it was unpaid I don't think it should go in the employment section but hey I'm his mother so I know nothing. He's got two part time paid jobs and put them both in, one of which is directly related to his subject - it may make a difference, it may not.

I wouldn't worry too much - what is his subject?

It's much more relevant for mature applicants to show their experience. Particularly important if they don't have typical qualifications for university entry. Won't make any difference to selection for a typical school leaver.

Thanks both - he is applying to architecture -- has work relevant work experience but not relevant employment - so nothing to add to that section. Makes sense for mature students.

Mine didn't have anything to fill in there and he got offers. He had done some very informal work and volunteering but he put that in his personal statement as it was relevant to his subject.

Its for mature students. Or people who have done a few years working at non-graduate level in an industry, and are doing a degree to up their game.

Not teenage part time work.
