Extreme Fatigue and Uni

Just that really. Has anyone experienced extreme fatigue and problems with attention while at university?

If yes, what did you do? I've been complaining to my GP's (every single GP I've had as a teen and adult, which is around 12 due to most retiring) and all my bloods have come back fine. I get up early to take the dogs for a walk and by the time I get back, I'm knackered. The slightest amount of exercise tires me out and if it wasn't for my stamina, I'd be confined to bed. I've fallen asleep in inappropriate places such as lectures (I have finished my 1st year of my degree), while talking to friends and even doze off in the middle of dinner. I've tried varying the times I go to bed and, but nothing makes a difference.

Has anyone experienced this and what university support did you get, if any?

TIA for any replies.

My BIL was always falling asleep & eventually found he had apnea. He had to go to a sleep clinic & has had measures put in place to sort it out. Any chance it might be that? Do you snore or sleep badly at night?

Sounds like sleep apnoea. You don't need student support (they're overtaxed already) you need to get tested in a Sleep Clinic. See your GP.

You will usually need a diagnosis in order to get proper support measures in place - I would try going back to the GP again (or trying the university health service if you haven't already).

Thanks for the replies ladies, and apologies for not getting back sooner. We've not long moved and am painting and decorating as well as helping to look after my friend's DC as she's in hospital for at least the next week. I've had a bit more energy this last week, so have used that to my advantage and got things done.

I don't snore. DH had a camera recording me every night for a week and not once did I snore. I didn't stop breathing either. I've been like this since I was 12yo (am 38 now, so 26yrs and counting) and have had blood tests done for my liver/kidneys/thyroid and many other tests. I have got to the point where I've given up asking about it as I know my tests will come back within normal range. When they take blood, I feel incredibly sleepy after and need to get home fairly quick before I nod off.

I know there is something not right, but am reluctant to bother the GPs again about it. I can just about manage to get through the day now and do the bare minimum.

I'm starting my 2nd year through the OU as we had to move and it was the option that suited me most.

Must go now to so a bit more painting, so will be back either later on or tomorrow. Thanks for your replies ladies, they're much appreciated.

Morning ladies, just a quick update. Got up at 5am no problem to take the mad mutts for a run. Feeling like it's one of my more active and constructive days where I'll be able to get my living room finished and start on the front hall.

Am heading to the hospital to visit my close friend as she is going through an operation this morning. I'll have to muster up the energy to help out as she'll be laid up for a number of days and maybe a few weeks possibly, so I'll need to bob in every day to do the ironing, washing, dishes, cook meals and paint and decorate. LOL, by the time she's back on her feet and able to do all that, I'll not want to see a blooming roller or paint brush for another 10 years Grin

Anyway, thank you everyone for your replies, and if anyone wants to put in their tupence worth in, please do so. I'll be glad and interested to hear about your experiences Smile
