Preparing for Uni in 2015

Carrying on from yr13 thread, here thought we could share our ideas for Uni preparation.

All welcome, not just those in above thread. Would especially appreciate contributions from those who have 'been there'

Topics that spring to mind, and a few recent threads on them are :

What to take What to take , What NOT to take, Shared accommodation

Clearing out rooms

How much to contribute What does it cost, How much needed weekly, How much are you subbing

Budgeting, cooking, and other life skills to learn Easy recipes for teens

Leaving friends, family, boy/girlfriends behind

Us coping without them - noted series of 'Empty Nest' threads.

Hope all the links correct!

It's Sunday we get the results - am already starting to feel nervous! He doesn't really have a plan b as his insurance choice offer is actually 1 point higher than his first choice. I will be clutching wood until 4:30pm on Sunday ...

Great news Basildon!

Thank you everyone- feeling mightily relieved

The little sod nearly gave me a heart attack by groaning "oh no!" when he opened the envelope, followed quickly by "I could have got away with so much less work!"

His school has suggested looking into 'trading up' so considering either adjustment or reapplying for 2016. Personally I think Exeter will suit him v well and the course is very highly regarded but he wants to see if he has any other options now ...

Lovely position to be in, basildon. Had to laugh at your DS's 'Oh no!'.

Hello, how on earth did I miss this thread? Getting a bit teary reading all your posts .

DS1 is going to Northumbria in Sept. This is DS who never ever comes out of his room, doesn't drink, very quiet and just socialises over the World Wide Web. Please please tell me someone will go along and get him to join in.

I did say that the main thing he will be taking is a door wedge. He was all Confused as to why on earth would he prop his door open for other students to pop in to say hello....

I will be sending him with cake and an emergency box of bottled beer just in case he decides he would like to join in .

Washing up bowl!

Our shard kitchen in halls was awful, and the people in my corridor often used my stuff. I had a washing up bowl in my room that I kept all my crockery in and could wash it up even if the sink was gross.
