Creative art degree work load

DD is on her first year of a practical art subject.
She loves the subject but says she is really tired and is finding the workload demanding with short deadlines.
She has always put in 110% but I am worried that she is actually working too hard and not having time for fun stuff.
The campus is a bus ride from the town and weather has been pants so not much incentive to go out, also flatmates often go home at weekends and she is too far away to do so.
Just wish she could relax a bit more.

I think this is common with the creative arts. My Dd had a similar experience on her BTEC so it's come as no surprise. I'm sure its because there is never a right answer so improvement can always be made.

Think it's harder as her flat mates have less actual work, essays etc but I suppose they should be reading more!
Whereas she has sketchbooks, practical work, presentations and essays.
She is a bit of a perfectionist with her sketchbooks etc so doesn't work quickly, am hoping she speeds up. Also hope they don't set work for Easter so she can have a break, I have a few nice trips and workshops planned.

my dd has a flatmate doing her course so they understand which helps - don't forget the others are likely to have exams, which your DD probably won't have.

Yrs that's true, different pressures I guess.
I think my concerns are partly because I had such a difficult first year at uni, I wanted her to be happier!

it's really difficult as they are primed to do their best. Seeing others fail modules (a reality in the creative arts) also pushes the focused students further. and most are used to great grades and to get a first now is extremely difficult. My Dd current module is a completely new discipline and proving really stressful and time consuming but she has learned from it, so much.

I think easter is still part of my Dds second semester so she is likely to have some work but they finish earlier for summer than the exam based courses. She will still be home though so will be able to spend time with you. I've been reluctant to arrange anything here without asking as I'm not sure what demands her new life will need.

The unis have support for students finding things tough not just for the work side. could she speak to them if she is unhappy?

I asked her before I organised anything, she's up for what I suggested!
I dont think she's unhappy all the time just around deadlines etc.

I wouldn't worry then she sounds organised and I still get stressed at deadline time and I'm nearly 50!
