She's in year 9 and choosing options. Afaik she will need art at gcse to get onto architecture. Does anyone know if unis would accept graphic design instead of art? Her graphics teacher seems to think so but I can't find any info out.

I am an architect, I didn't do art but did DT with a graphics option.
You can do it but she must be prepared to produce a portfolio for interview and they like to see a mix of work in this including freestyle work. This can be produced outside school though so she doesn't HAVE to do art although this is the most common route. It may help to keep up with artistic pursuits outside of school because a confidence with drawing really helps - one uni interview asked me to freehand draw an engine that was sitting on the table, I don't know if they still do this kind of thing but the confidence is needed.
I would really recommend getting involved with architecture whilst she is at school either through work experience or through events run by RIBA, architecture centre etc as an awful lot of people don't really understand what the career actually entails. This I think helps contribute to the high drop out rate at university.
It's a good subject encompassing a wide range of skills but it's worth going into with a full understanding of what it entails, how long the course is and what you can really do with it when you've finished.
