Predicted grades entered incorrectly by school - any advice

An unusual number of year 13's in my dd's school have been turned down by the universities they applied to .... disappointed teenagers. They were told that their predicted grades were too low. It turns out that the school added the wrong predicted grades, so for example a girl who got high marks was predicted BBC and vice versa. Some of the predicted grades are two grades out. Chaos! Luckily we are unaffected.

Is it too late to rectify? Can they start the process again? Trouble is that the universities have turned them down now.

Apparently the school has tried.

A lot of people don't have much option but to go to their local comprehensive. Even if they do, quite often the schools are run as academies by the same management.

I can't imagine that there would be a huge number of cases like this, so why not allow those affected to just start the application afresh?

Littleham you're being way too lenient as regards the school. The situation you describe is so totally unacceptable it beggars belief. The school is totally culpable regardless of what was going on at the time, and has an absolute duty to sort it out fast.

Tricky - not my child. I can only try my best to help, hence all my questions.

Starting to hear that the situation is being resolved for a few of those affected. One girl who was turned down by four universities now has four offers after the school e mailed to explain the error.

Some still to be resolved. Lets hope it isn't too late. It never occurred to me that this could happen.

Glad to hear it Littleham - sounds a shocking situation, whatever was going on at school at the time. Poor girl - what stress.

Anything involving humans can have errors. What matters is there are processes of appeal to put them right and that seems to be the case here.

From a UCAS perspective (dealing with hundreds of thousands of applicants) it's actually almost bound to happen at some point. From our perspective, with just a few DCs and their mates, it is almost nil chance we will see it happen.

Delighted the situation appears to have been sorted. The auto-rejections were probably all based on it being a "silly" application - i.e they never take BBC students.

Glad that the situation has been sorted for some of the applicants.

But the behaviour of the school really does beggar belief. I am glad they seem to have got their act together. A2 students are not always robust, and this sort of thing could completely ruin some of them.
