Bournemouth Uni / DeMontfort ??

Does anyone have any experience of either of these two Unis ? Son starting to look and despite already having DD1 at Uni I know nothing about either of these ! Any info re campus , accomodation , location etc gratefully received !!

My ds is at Bournemouth Arts but lots of his friends are at Bournemouth university and they love it. What course?

Audio technology

My sons best mate is doing this and doing well.my ds does film and he often does the music for him.

Bournemouth is a great town in which to be a student, and the University seems to be on the up. I have no idea about audio technology, but it has a reputation for being good at practical subjects especially modern media type subjects and for good work placements. A lot of students seem to stay on after graduating. Indeed I know someone who moved there because she enjoyed visiting her student daughter and then moved her own mother down to take advantage of the good provision for elderly people.

Its helped by what seems to be a flourishing local economy including firms like Farrow and Ball and Lush, as well as quite a lot of financial sector firms, on top of the traditional hotel and care sectors. Run down areas which in the 90's hosted benefit tourists are in the process of being regenerated, in part becoming quite lively student areas. The beach, and the surrounding countryside is great. Accommodation should be OK as there is an established pattern of landlords doing holiday lets during the summer, and then October-May winter lets.

It depends on the course, but as a town I don't think you could go far wrong with Bournemouth.

My son loves uni but would never live there

Accommodation expensive but good although all lets sept to july so far. Last 2 years ds has been home and still paying for house there.

Dd looked at both for her course. Didnt go to either in the end as they werent her first choice.
Bornemouth Arts is quite a way from the main uni and felt a bit sixth form college like in the layout. De Montford was much more of a campus but very close to the city centre. They were very friendly there and it had a vibrant feel to the campus. Accommodation was very close by for first years. Dont think bornemouth arts has its own halls. Dd friend who went there had to go for a day in the hols to sort out a student house.

Yes my son is at Bournemouth Arts and has been in houses from day one. The facilities are first class

Thanks everyone but it is Bournemouth Uni not Arts we are looking at - and now Southampton Solent too if anyone knows anything about that !

My nephew went to Southampton Solent and got a first in something like film editing. He really enjoyed it - lovely lad. However, sadly he has been unemployed since (bad timing / recession / cut backs in that industry) so if anyone knows of any opportunities please send me a PM!

I went to Bournemouth uni (a while ago of course!) but it's brilliant.

Accommodation for first year is often in b&bs/hotels - sounds weird but is brilliant because it's not as big and scary as halls and you get really close with people you live with.

Beach of course is a bonus! The student union is great too.
