Should I ask for a re-mark?

Could somebody tell me if I have worked this out correctly please?

DC got an A for Edexcel A2 Maths today, predicted A star but happy as made grades for a high offer. I only just got a proper look at the results sheet and the marks were:

C3 93 ums
C4 86 ums
Total ums 544

From what I remember (and the edexcel website says), a star for maths requires 480+ total ums and a total of 180 ums for C3 + C4. DC has 179, one ums out which converts to 0.7 of an actual mark below an a star!

Could anyone check I have worked this out correctly please so I don't make a fool of myself if I have got it wrong?

Also, should I get a re-mark as it is so very close (was predicted a v.comfortable a star)? Or should I leave well enough alone as DC is delighted with the university place). Or tell and let them decide? Opinions gratefully received! Been a long day and could have done without this really.

If your DC has got their place and it's a good one and they're happy with it, I would leave well alone. Otherwise you look like you're effectively saying that what they got wasn't good enough for you. They have done extremely well and now you can look forward to them moving on to their degree. In 3 years' time it won't matter at all, and it doesn't really matter now if they got where they wanted to. Congrats! Hope you have celebrated

Up to your dc, really, at this stage.

It's also worth discussing with school/college - they'd obviously rather maximise their A*s for league tables & what have you, so might be keen to have it re-marked. You may need to pay if they aren't.

As a candidate I'd probably be tempted - it's obviously a safe A, so no chance of being downgraded & losing the Uni place. If I thought I'd been in line for an A*, & it was close, then worth a punt on a re-mark.

As the candidate's mum I'd congratulate my dc & butt out, though! The Uni place is the important thing.

Only re mark if it matters. At this stage with a uni place bagged I wouldn't bother.

A friend of dds had a remark to try to hit Oxbridge grade. It wasn't a big change needed, but it didn't happen. He shouldn't have bothered in retrospect, but I think psychologically he had to try. All that happened was that he was sat on the fence for several weeks without fixing accom etc. As pretty much always happens " plan b " has been brilliant.

Having done all this 2x now, and particularly learning from DS who understands these things, I actually think there should be more re marking at AS as the UMS carried forward all impact on A2 scores. Not that we will have AS for dd2 in 2yrs time!
