I would imagine at least 15 hours lectures a week and you would be expected to put in that much again.
I am starting a p/t MSc next week, which involves one full day of lecture a week.We are expected to cram in a day and a half of independent study too.

Good Luck!

Ratclare, make sure you investigate part-time and distance learning options, eg the Open University.

moondog · 19/09/2006 09:27

Do you do that Kath.
God,would never have discipline to learn alone.
I'd just fall asleep or MN continuously.

KathyMCMLXXII · 19/09/2006 09:30

No I wouldn't either, Moondog, but I teach in a department that does at lot of DL and PT (not the right subject for ratclare, unfortunately). Some of our students have full-time jobs and families and they still manage to hand in their essays on time though!

ratclare · 19/09/2006 13:32

Actually i have decided that i am going to move sideways and up in my present career ,i am going to get back in the academic saddle and do a cuople of courses in an area i am really interested in (sexual health,no funny comments please!)and they are distance learning whcih is great . Thanks for your advice folks

My friend's just starting a geography degree and I think is in 10 hours a week. I do history and am in 8 hours. But factor in the amount of work you have to do outside this - I do about 30 hours extra a week and more when I have essays due in.

bum too late

Hi, you are right, its a lot of work but it means you can still earn your wage, keep your job and get qualified. I didn't realise it was going to be so much extra hours over and above lectures so I have to be very strict and the tv hardly comes on anymore! FioFio what are you studying?

saffymum · 02/02/2007 15:38

I do 7 hours on a thursday evening and the rest is assignment based.

This semester I am in, 5 hours on Monday, all day Tuesday, 2 hours on Wednesday, all day Thursday. Friday is my only day off.

saffymum · 02/02/2007 15:40

Business studies with management, I would love to have done fashion (yes i know the two are very different!) but i have chosen to work along the lines of my current career as PA/office manager so that I can go into project management or team management. Where is your course? Are you in London? I am at Barnet College.

nikkie · 02/02/2007 18:31

I have just been looking into a foundation degree and you have answered my question for me thanks Fio
