OK I've really got to get down and get some of my first unit of my NVQ done. But I'm running round in circles trying to answer the first question.........which once it's answered will point me in the right direction for the rest of the workbook LOL.

Name three pieces of legislation that are relevant when assistant clients with their personal care.

Thanks

Maybe look at the laws around consent? You can't touch anyone without their consent or else its assualt or battery?

Privacy laws related to residential homes? Confidentiality?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 06/09/2006 22:50

I know there are 3 specific ones - which when I see them will know are right - but there are so many pieces of legislation it's doing my nut in LOL.

HRHQueenofQuotes - Doesn't your assessor give you any guidance re underpinning knowledge? They should be showing you how to access the information really. Are you doing the NVQ through a College or a Private training provider - as most Colleges (and generally most Training providers) run underpinning knowledge workshops or drop in sessions? I work for an awarding body as an External Verifier (although I don't EV Care awards). I would certainly be looking closely at a centre where the candidates are not well supported by their assessor. I would ring them up and ask how to access the information.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/09/2006 12:01

ermmm well actually I said I'd be able to find the information myself......especially when he asked whether I had internet access and knew how to use it to find information - he told me it was very easy.........and it probably is - I'm just having a serious 'blonde' moment with this first question (I'm fine with the rest of them - I've just lost the plot on this one

?? get an NVQ in care textbook from the library - have only seen them and never used one but it might give you a start to know where to find more detailed info
example of what I mean

? manual handling regs
?consent
?

BarefootJasnem · 07/09/2006 13:07

Health and Social Care Act 2001?
Care Standards Act 2000?

mumof3 is right, you should have this information already, or someone available to point you in the right direction.
I was an assessor for Direct care levels 2&3, but I think I've got rid of all my paperwork, as I won't be going back to it. I will have a look for you later, if no one else can help in the mean time.

mumof3teens · 07/09/2006 14:50

HRH - Which NVQ and level are you doing - I could try to get some info from one of my Centres for you - I'm sure they would be happy to help?

makealist · 07/09/2006 15:04

Hi there,

I have just completed my NVQ2 in health and social care, do you have a copy of
S/NVQ level 2 Health & social care
By Yvonne Nolan. Published by Heinemann.

You will find everything you need to know somewhere in this book. It was quite pricey £19. but well worth it.

makealist · 07/09/2006 15:10

Data protection act 1998?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/09/2006 15:23

make a list - I already have that book - and I think I'm looking too hard TBH as I seem to be swimming in circles .

The next question (which will be really easy to answer when I know the answer to no.1 ) is

How does each of these pieces of legislation promote equality, diversity, rights and anti-discriminatory practice in relation to personal care.

This makes me think it could be Equal Opportunities, Humans Rights and ????

right beep beep i think I may have found it

colditz · 08/09/2006 21:09

Manual Handling Regulations 1992

Race Relations Act 1976 - because certain religions require that you clean yourself in a certain way or with a particular regularity, to refuse to assist with this could be termed abusive or neglectful

The Children Act 1989 - Nvq 2 in care isn't just about elderly care - it also covers nursing assisant for children too.

colditz · 08/09/2006 21:11

it could be any of them, t6o be honest.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 08/09/2006 21:14

thanks Colditz - I don't supposed you could offer me any advice on writing a report with regards to this thread could you?? I've started doing it as a factual "diary" (ie this happened, then that happened) type thing written from "my" view point (ie "I" did this, "she said to me"
