Hi
We applied for dd student finance yesterday online but still have to

  1. send her evidence of identity which is doable tomorrow
  2. respond to my e mail as a parent which hasn't come through yet ( assume as bank holiday ) and send all the relevant paperwork. This second bit will take me a few days as I've recently separated from her father ( will mean salary now is single as compared to joint in 2012 ) and will take some digging out of paperwork to confirm my end of year salary for 2012-13 ! As we have applied online are we ok with the deadline or has everything got to be in for 30th including all parents information, ie absolutely everything ? Very grateful for any advise thank you .

I'm watching this with interest as I'm awaiting our new passports before I complete my online application. And they seem to have been delayed! Am hoping it's not going to take too much longer but I might call them tomorrow to make sure I sort it out.

The SLC state that all applications made before the deadline will be processed in time to release the money at the start of term. Applications after the deadline are still processed, but they do not give any guarantee.

But the guarantee itself is pretty worthless, loads of people apply on time and they don't get the money. Others apply later, and are just fine.

So apply as soon as you can, and be prepared with a back-up plan whenever you make the application.

Apparently part time degree applicants have a later deadline. I know that's not appropriate to you, but I found out I'm o.k. to apply after the 30th, which is a relief. I hope it all goes well for you.

Interested watcher here as although my DCs have applied, neither have sent the declaration form back as it is at the home address. DD1 is on her year abroad (Erasmus). DD2 is living in the library.

Can they wait until the end of June for the Declaration?

mumeeee · 28/05/2014 22:18

DD3 did send her declaration form back ( she is going into second year),but she received a letter from student finance saying they hadn't received it. They have sent her another declaration form bit it's at here and she won't be back from university until the 7th June.
I remember DD2 was quite late sending hers back but she still got her loan on time. We are hoping it will be the same for DD3 which I actually think it will be as they will have everything already to go. The declaration is just the last bit.

Lambstales · 30/05/2014 20:40

Thank you mumeeee, it's reassuring that your DD2 got her loan on time.

Not that I can do anything about it unless I become a master of forged signatures (that, come to think of it I've hardly ever seen).

I think a little fund will be needed, just in case....

GRRR The bank has now sent letters switching them to graduate accounts.

The local branch knows full well that they are both on four year courses. Why, oh why, can't they communicate and put a stop to blanket letters that just aggravate the customers. (And require a phone call. Not good if abroad!).

OP, sorry to wander off topic, apologies.

You have started the process. It is a huge battle, that you just have to go along with.
As long as you are feeding them the information that they need, all 'should' go without a hitch. -hysterical laughter

I do know of students that applied late and had no problems.

My son (2nd year) told me the date was 27th June. I have only just got an email to do my own part, so I wouldn't worry too much, I expect they just need it all asap so that it doesn't end up all last-minute and one giant backlog. My DS didn't even apply to go to Uni at all until the end of August and his loan came through in time - he decided not to have a gap year after all.
