Moving to Scotland -uni fees and school system

We are tentatively thinking about a move to Scotland in September. It all depends on lots of things at the moment so I'm just gathering information to weigh up all the pros and cons.

I wondered if anyone knows how long students have to be living in Scotland to benefit from the free university education. DD2 is currently in Year 10 (but she is an end of August birthday so I don't know if the year group would be the same in Scotland; I've heard possibly not).

That would mean 3 or 4 years in the Scottish education system - is that enough?
Btw she is currently home educated and already has enough GCSEs to do the A levels of her choice so moving at this stage of her education shouldn't be an issue. She would be willing to go into school if we found the right one and particularly if she could go into the equivalent of Y10 in Sept instead of Y11.

I think it's 5 years uninterrupted residency to qualify. Found for Universities Scotland(8025053v4) DOC(80331803).pdf this but have only skimmed so I might be wrong.

It's three full years.

We thought about the same move last year. IIRC it's the last three years being "ordinarily resident" in the UK and at time of application ordinarily resident in Scotland. In addition, the move to Scotland cannot be purely for the purposes of full-time education (ie boarding school). This may have changed so probably worth contacting the SAAS (Student Awards Agency for Scotland) to confirm.

Thank you everyone! It looks as though we might just get her in in time if we do it. :) There are lots of reasons and we would go as a family so it wouldn't be just for full time education.
Will contact them and confirm.
