My daughter is just putting hers in, she is doing Graphic Design. When I questioned why it was late she told me that Art subjects go in later than all the others.

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 08/12/2013 09:55

my dd's subject doesn't go in later, she has just made a last minute decision

So long as she gets her application to UCAS by 6pm 15 Jan then her application will get 'equal consideration' in the initial rounds Offers.

But I suggest she doesnt leave it to the 15th - its a recipe for stress when the UCAS site gets utterly jammed with last minute applications. Aim at 1 January at the latest to ensure sanity for both you and daughter!

VegasIsBest · 08/12/2013 14:01

Art subjects have the same deadlines as all others now.

thanks, MrsB, hoping to have it done by end next week

There is NO advantage in submitting your application early. Unless you're applying for either Oxford or Cambridge, then it's January 15 2014.

Except that it means it's done & dusted, Also,f your child is applying to a degree/university where they interview, you'll get notification of an interview earlier as well.

But I wish people would stop thinking that early applications have an advantage. It just causes unnecessary panic.

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 08/12/2013 15:48

I didn't think early applics have the advantage, I know they are treated equally. I just wondered if anyone else's dozy teenager had had a last minute change of heart Smile

All applications may well be treated equally, but I must admit at our school the usual policy is to get all the applications in early and the students are enjoying the relief of offers coming in before Christmas.

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 08/12/2013 15:54

I know, LeB. Oh well...

My daughter sent hers in on Thursday and college now do their reference. She is applying for an Art based course and, if selected, will have interviews, so she had to be sure her PS was watertight for questioning and her portfolio virtually ready to go before applying.

HorsePetal · 08/12/2013 18:33

DT1 got her hers in nice and early and is currently unpacking her toothbrush at Oxford awaiting first round of interviews tomorrow.

DT2 has only just finished her PS and planning to get application in next week Grin

They are like chalk and cheese Grin

ds finished his last week, when I was speaking to the Head of 6th Form (about something else) she said she was going to talk to him about it before she added her part, so it might not have finally 'gone' yet.

MrsBright · 09/12/2013 09:06

If anything, waiting a bit into the winter term before sticking their application in is often a good idea.

Time to THINK. 'Is this what I really want or am I just following the crowd' and 'Is this Uni what I really want - or did I choose it for a silly reason' OR 'I've changed my mind about doing Maths, I want to do History instead' etc etc.

Once the application is in and the dust has settled, making any changes is either very difficult or simply impossible/not allowed. Lots of teenagers dont grasp this last bit. When UCAS say 'you cannot change this' that is actually what they mean - no exceptions.

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 09/12/2013 17:55

OK, DD has seen her course tutor today, had her personal statement signed off, references to be done this week and awayyyyy we go < gulp >

MerryFuckingChristmas · 11/12/2013 21:34

Good luck, mumma

mummaemma · 19/12/2013 21:00

Well so far conditional offer from southampton, greenwich and chichester still waiting on other 2

bruffin · 19/12/2013 21:35

Ds put his UCAS in last week.
Applied for Durham, Southampton,Bristol,Leeds and loughborough.
Got a conditional offer from Southampton today.

mumma24 · 08/01/2014 17:29

Well DD now has offers from 4 uni's but still waiting to hear from canterbury, her 1st choice, it's been 4 weeks, how's everyone else doing?

bruffin · 08/01/2014 19:34

Ds got an email from Bristol today. They rejected him from a masters, but still felt he was a strong candidate and felt he would be suitable for a similar course. They would keep him pendind until all the applications were in.

Kez100 · 08/01/2014 19:37

My DD applied for four in late December and now holds interviews at all four. A very busy January!

2rebecca · 09/01/2014 14:42

2 unconditionals (Scottish) the other 3 don't send out offers until after the deadline.
Getting it done early has meant he can concentrate on his prelims, although now he knows they don't really matter, although I'm trying to persuade him to still try as he may change his mind about the course and it'll make his foundation year easier.
