Student cook book recommendations

I am struggling to find a post which several people recommended a student cook book. My DS is thinking of buying his big sister one for Christmas and I said I could find him one that was recommended but no cant find it !!

I second nosh for students because:

  • No scales are used for measuring the ingredients, it is all done by mugs. They have a picture of a mug on one page to match up your mug size.
  • there is a useful page which tells you how long you can keep certain items of food in the fridge without killing you!

My favourite has always been the Beyond Baked Beans series by Fiona Beckett. There are three books - the original one, green (veggie) and budget.

If pictures are a must-have then it won't suit you, but if you want something that will produce nice, quick meals that don't require a long list of ingredients, a lot of time or a lot of skill then it's pretty good.

The Sam Stern books are good too. My DDs have them at home.
