Is there ever anyone who doesn't receive any offers?

Looking at the worst case scenario here!
We've just hit the send button. DD is dyslexic so it's taken us ages to get this far. Writing the personal statement and researching the courses has taken so much effort, I'm not convinced she can cope with a degree. She's looking at dance courses and will have to do an audition first. But it's not clear if all unis will accept a BTEC. She is doing 1 A level and the rest in equivalent BTECs. Some unis say they will accept this, others don't make it clear. All her friends are getting offers so just wandered if there's ever been anyone who didn't get any?
Not sure I really want to know the answer to this!

Yes. Obviously. Most students are sensible in targeting their appliccation, but some will apply for 5 universities which are all a bit of a reach/very competitive, and be unlucky and get five rejections. For medicine, getting 4 rejections is not unusual. It's much more common at the top end, imo.

Having said that, it is really not hard to check entry requirements on the websites or by contacting admissions departments to check they will accept BTECs and at what grades, and that would have been the sensible thing to do before she applied.

If she ends up with five rejections, then this would be a sensible thing to do before applying via extra.

Could I just add that your daughter is the one who should be contacting admissions tutors, not you. I used to have a job that involved a lot of contact with potential students on a postgraduate course. Amazingly, even there we sometimes got enquiries from parents rather than applicants. It doesn't make the best first impression. At undergraduate level one of the things universities need reassurance about is - will this student cope with the course? If they can't even make a simple phone call or send an email, it doesn't bode well.

DD just received her first offer! She was nervous at the audition but thought she did well in the interview.
She has 2 more auditions now, for places that she would prefer, so maybe this offer will give her more confidence for these.
It's a relief to know that she has something!

Thats brilliant Puddleglum
an update from me as well. They upped DS predictions a bit and he has an offer from Southampton and still waiting on the other 4. One uni has rejected him from the masters but have said they would wait until all the other applications came in and might have another course they think will be suitable for him.
