Computer engineering - what Level 3 choices should he look at?

My son is currently looking at 6 forms and colleges. Tomorrow we are visiting a really big one with a multitude of choices but he isn't sure what options he has which will lead him best towards a career 'fixing computers'. He is relatively clever and with computers changing all the time and being chucked away more often than repaired, I think (but am happy to be told I am wrong) what he is really looking at is a more general electronic engineering route to keep options open whilst specialising in the right direction.

Again, from the list of courses, these seem to fit:

A level: Mathematics, Physics, Electronics, ICT
BTEC Engineering

BTEC ICT

(BTEC maybe with an added A level)

Any help or advice greatly appreciated before we visit the big college tomorrow.

I guess some unis require him to take Maths.
He could do combined course - Maths and Computer Science.

I believe having Maths at A levels opens a lot of doors for you.
Some employers won't even consider interviewing graduates without Maths at A level.

Show your son this - it looks very interesting:

also lots of other interesting developments are where young entrepreneurs are seeking investments for his perusal of what not so distance future holds :)

If he does not like essays then be careful with ICT A level. AQA and OCR have large essay type exam questions

He would be keeping his options open with the a level options. If he had a change of heart he would still be able to choose from a very long list of degrees.

I don't know but I suspect that a BTech in IT would restrict his choices a bit more. You should double check this though.
