UCAS help please - putting down different courses

Hello

DS2 is currently finishing off his UCAS form. He's been to the open days except Imperial, looked at all the prospectuses and courses and compared all the unistats info.

So he's narrowed it down to 5 - including Imperial as he bumped the one he liked least off his shortlist when school recommended he apply to Imperial.

The courses he's chosen are a bit different uni to uni - though still in the same department - and he's worried that they'll think it's strange.

Will they?

Thanks

they won't think it's strange, because each uni won't see where else your DS has applied to.
What will be difficult (though not impossible) though is coming up with one personal statement which will explain why he is suitable for all the courses (you can only write one personal statement). If the courses aren't too different, then that might be OK, but if the courses are very different, he'll struggle.

Eg: friend of my DD wants to apply for some medical, and some nursing degrees because she hasn't yet made up her mind if she wants to be a doctor or a nurse. The skills and temprament suited to each are very different.

YDdraigGoch thanks. I think he'll be fine with the personal statement as the courses are quite similar. I did wonder whether each uni would get to know who else he'd applied to.
Thank again

No probs - and good luck to DS with the application. Smile

Can you tell us what the names of the courses are?

As you can only send in one PS, it's important to make sure that you look committed to your subject. Applying to two (or more) different subjects means that you can make yourself look uncommitted, which will likely lead to a rejection.

Sometimes, two courses have very similar names, but are actually very different, hence why I'm asking which courses he's applying to, so that we can catch out any schoolboy errors.

The universities won't know which other courses he has applied for, but the trick is to craft a personal statement that works for each of his choices.
