Nowt wrong with York! I don't know what you're on about RussiansOnTheSpree Grin

It's near Leeds and the coast, and Scotland, and beautiful walking countryside. And I speak as a true Lancashire lass.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 08/10/2013 14:53

Never mind Chimney. I hope you get better soon. Grin

Like I said, it's a very well regarded university.

MirandaWest · 08/10/2013 14:57

I studied at York. And have come back to live here. University has expanded since I left here but still pretty similar I think. And even though there are quite a few 60s concrete blocks on campus, it can look quite lovely too :)

I went to York, too (albeit 20+ years ago!) and loved it. I am now looking at it for my dd who has just started sixth form. She is very keen on going somewhere which is organised in colleges as it makes everything more manageable and easy to make friends. Most of my friends were from my college rather than my course. Looking at the website it does look like it has changed a lot since my day.

Russians you're just a soft southerner Wink

ReallyTired · 09/10/2013 09:29

York is a lovely place to live and study. The costs of living are reasonable as well. Lots of people want to live in York after their degrees and sadly there are no jobs.

However whether its the right university depends on the student's personality and course. I did a masters at Salford and in someways living in Manchester was more fun.

MorrisZapp · 09/10/2013 09:32

My DS is only 3, but I am grooming him rigorously for a future at York uni! Just because I love the place so much, and also because I wish somebody had encouraged me to study further afield (grew up in Edinburgh, studied in Glasgow)

KatieScarlett2833 · 09/10/2013 09:41

I have an MA from York. Can't praise them highly enough Grin

UptheChimney · 09/10/2013 10:03

Ah but Morris you need to live up to your name, and send your DS either to Rummidge or Euphoria. Although last time I was there, Euphoria had lost some of its glow ... cutbacks, even in the State of Euphoria. And Rummidge no longer has the paternoster.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 09/10/2013 10:08

I so wanted to go to Rummidge. :(

UptheChimney · 09/10/2013 10:31

Ruussians you are sad, sad, sad.

I've been to Paradise, but I've never been to Rummidge.

Hmmm, something's wrong there.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 09/10/2013 10:33

It sounded like fun. All the 60s/70s fictional universities did. I was a big fan of campus novels when I was a teen.

AntoinetteCosway · 09/10/2013 11:36

DH and I both went there and we still live in York-it makes me a bit sad that DD probably won't want to go there because it's in her home town!

MirandaWest · 09/10/2013 11:43

Antoinette I've been thinking similar things about DS and DD (not that it needs to be thought about for a while Blush)

AntoinetteCosway · 09/10/2013 12:34

Well yes, DD is only 2 Blush

Thank you everyone who commented.

Much appreciated.

All I can say is DH went to an OU summer school there and everyone came down with food poisoning! But that was 20 years ago!
