Opthalmology BSc or BMedSci

Does anyone know anything about this subject please? DD is thinking of studying this at university, but is unsure whether a BSc or BMedSci is the best qualification to have.

I have googled but can't seem to find any definitive answer on this one. Thanks in advance for any advice.

It won't make any difference if she gets a BSc or a BMedSci per se. However, the subject matter will matter - which is she more interested in? Is she sure she wants to specialise in eyes?

Usually the choice between BSc or BMedSci comes from the tradition at each university.

It says nothing about the content at all, and makes no difference to the outcome.

Is your DD confusing Ophthalmology with Optometry?

As Ophthalmologists are qualified doctors who choose to specialise in eyes it could be either BMedSci or BSc Medicine. So to be an ophthalmologist you would be making a medicine application.

Optometry is direct entry and qualifies you as an optician.

They are essentially the same qualification.

Cream teas is right though, it will be either Orthoptics or Optometry.
