Law or Music?

Hi all. Not sure I'm in the right place, but could someone offer some advice please? I gave up my job to bring up dd during which time I've been doing casual temporary work. I want to go back to work soon but my cv looks decidedly stale. I have spent my career in teaching, lecturing, and management. I have a first degree in languages, qualifications in HRM, including a Masters'.

I'd like to do a course to refresh my cv and I have been considering either employment law or music, which is currently my hobby. Any ideas? Happy to spend some cash, but a bit short on time. Thanks!

What is it that you aim to do after completing the course?

Actually, I'm not really sure. I was hoping to return to lecturing part time, which was why I thought employment law would be relevant. However, having taken up music ( piano) as a hobby I thought something in , music could useful too. I have no qualifications in music, but thought it could be another string on my bow, so to speak (for example if I were to pursue primary school teaching as an option). My age is against me, so whichever would be the more advantageous.

I think you need a clearer idea of what you would do after to see if either acourse would be of value.

What do you lecture in?

How good are you on piano? DipABRSM standard? If so primary PGCE starting in September might be an option. Get in touch with local providers and see if they have any spaces for music specialism. Or if you have a PGCE do your piano diploma and teach privately or on a peripatetic basis.

I think you need a clear aim though, 'something in music or law' isn't really going to enhance your prospects unless you know exactly where they will lead.

Thanks both. Givemeaclue: I lecture in Business Studies and Human Resource Management, but I have nothing at moment in Employment Law, hence the question. I've a lot of experience with the Trade Unions too, which is why I thought Employment Law would be a sensible route to go down.

Titchy: piano is a hobby at the moment. I have a basic piano teaching qualification from the Abr sm, and I have a Pgce already. To teach music, though, I assume I'd need a degree plus grade 8 at least, which is way beyond me at the moment!! I''ve thought about private piano teaching too, but I doubt I'm marketable. I''ll look at the DipAbrsm, though- thanks for suggesting it.
