PGCE in September 2012+online SLC form=£0 maintenance and tuition fee loan

Any other potential PGCE students having problems with the online form?

I'm starting a PGCE in September and qualify for a tuition fee and maintenance loan as its a postgrad ITT course (confirmed by both the SLC and my Uni). However, when I fill in all my details online, including my previous degree/loan details etc, its estimate is £0 for both loans.

I've spoken twice to the SLC and they said just to submit it as it is and the assessors will sort it out, as I'm obviously entitled to the loans (they are not income assessed).

Anyone else encountered this glitch? Or are there any assessors out there? I've submitted it as they advised; but knowing the SLC, I feel like this is just going to turn into a massive headache!

SLC is always a headache! Even with the most straight forward of cases.

You mentioned you have a previous degree and loan. This can mean you are not entitled to further funding. Has anyone mentioned that to you? If you had four years worth of funding from SLC then you may not be entitled to more funding.

DulcetMoans I'm pretty sure it's different for PGCEs - after all, you can't get onto a PG qualification without a UG degree, and they're crying out for teachers in certain subjects.

Yes boomting, PGCEs are an exception.

In previous years it was easier for PGCE students to do a paper form, but I wasn't given that option when I spoke to the SLC.

Yes, PGCEs are different. But the online application is such a blunt instrument that it maybe can't differentiate. You told it that you had a loan before and perhaps it automatically thinks you are not entitled.

Anyway, although they are really discouraging paper applications for all the usual reasons, it is still possible if you request one. They have to make them available so don't let them tell you it isn't. I would recommend that as paper application get assigned to someone to process and work out themselves. You'll have someone to talk to, not just whoever picks up the phone.
