Will the Alevel ds1 took 2 years early count on his ucas application?

Ds1 took his French Alevel (A2) 2 years early and got an A. He is now taking his As levels. When he applies for university in the autumn will he be able to put that down and for example if the entry requirement is ABB then he already has his A or was it a total waste of time taking it early? Any advice please.

Yes of course he'll be able to put it down! Most universities will count it - although a handful won't as they'll want all subjects taken at the same time. Unless his degree needs particular subjects and French isn't one of course!

Yes it will count. Some universities prefer all the A levels to have been taken in one sitting, but that's more to give extra weight to people who do them in one go vs those who get some as resits later.

He should read carefully through the prospectus for each university and course to check exactly how they word things - and even contact the admissions tutor if it looks like being complicated, just to be sure if they talk about wanting them all in one sitting.

Yes.

He needs to put down any qualification he has (and any in which he got a U). If he doesn't, then the universities can theoretically treat it as fraud and revoke the application.

However, some universities don't count GCSEs / A Levels in a pupil's native language when giving out offers and effectively ignore it. Others will reduce the offer they give him in recognition of it.

The one sitting thing won't apply to your DS, so long as he is doing 3/4 A Levels now, and he doesn't resit any on a gap year.

No university, however, will see getting an A Level early as a disadvantage ;)

Ds took an A level early and one of the four universities he applied to counted it towards their standard offer and gave him a reduced offer asking for just two more grades, another specified that the three grades for their offer had to be achieved this summer, and the other two made an offer of 3 grades but didn't specify whether or not the existing one counted.

Thank you all so much for your help. It is reassuring that taking it wasn't a waste of time! Fingers crossed that he gets decent marks in his As levels.

He must still put it down, and universities will look at it, es in his chosen subject. However, it most probably won't count towards his offer from him.

For example, if the offer is for ABB in his A2s then the A previously completely will usually not count.

My sister had this issue and only one university included the previous A grade sat the year earlier.
