...have had an email from the OU telling me that I will get more info in July to apply to the student loan company.

The course starts on 6th Oct and my place has been reserved BUT I have heard some nightmare stories re: the student loan company...please reassure me that it will be ok!!!

How long does it take to apply? What is the normal waiting time?

TIA

It will be ok in the end - as long as you don't already have a degree. The slc will take forever to process your application as they have never done pt loans before now, but they will pay the ou directly your fees. The ou won't hassle you for fees.

Yes, I will be in the same position. I found out today that my already 'accepted' application for the BSc Banking and Finance (Over the Access route) at the UoL International programm was rejected because the admission team made a mistake. Great! I was thinking for many weeks now that I will start the course in September and already bought the books. My fault. Anyway they told me if I take two courses or one at 60 credits I can start the course next year. What worries me are the tuition fees but I am glad that I can take out a loan. (If it gets accepted.)

I've just signed up to do an open degree with the ou starting in October. I am starting out with social sciences and discovering Maths but what I REALLY want to do is something which will lead into primary education.

I currently don't have any experience in schools apart from being a parent helper occasionally but really wanted to do the classroom one mentioned earlier (can't remember correct title and doing this on my phone!!!) but it says it is best suited to someone already in a classroom setting. Night try and follow that pathway in the next module selection.

I am currently working part time too but if it gets too much I have considered leaving work and concentrating on my studies so could try and get some volunteer experience at my kids school.

"I would love to do a history degree but need a qualification so I can get a job!"

Why not become a history teacher after?

Because you have to do a PGCE and then are still unlikely to get a job.
