Hi,
How much do you envisage your child needing per week to live in London?
Assuming halls / or not?
Many thanks,

Really surprised at everyone's stories here.

I think DCs should go to uni where they choose. Yes London is expensive but they get a higher student loan although that doesn't pay for everything. DD2 did apply for uni's in other cities but she really wanted to go to London. She is in Kinston upon Thames which counts as London.

My DD is studying in London, now in her second year of six.

She's enjoying a full social life and stays just about in budget. Some things are cheaper because of the range of high street shops near where she lives and daily travel is a lot cheaper than travel here in the depths of the countryside.

Living in hall last year cost about £150 a week for a shared room with en suite in Kensington. This year in a flat she has less spending money after rent and utilities but is food-shopping more carefully. Living in a flat has worked out more expensively because she was paying rent during the summer and is dearer per week than the shared room in hall but she now has her own room and a decent kitchen. (Food and utensils tend to disappear from a kitchen in a hall of residence.)

No regrets from us. Student loan covers it along with a bursary from the university. The tuition fee is the same as elsewhere.

She did apply to other unis but this one was her first choice and she is loving life in London.
