So any info be great thanks!

Have children, am trained A1 Assessor in health and social care, have NVQ 3 in the same and want to change career. Am baffled by all the courses on offer!!

Do I have to do a nursing course to start with or what course would be best? I am happy to do it full time for up to 2 years, is this all college based or do you work a lot from home?Does it cost? I work part time and get some benefits, am hoping that means I can carry this on while Im studying or will I have to give up work?

Am single but ex-h has some of the kids at weekends but isnt too reliable

So many questions!!

I thought it was via a degree these days?

It is a degree now I'm afraid.

You can do nursing and then an 18 month conversion course or you can do direct entry midwifery which is over 3 years full time with all your time split between placements and university study.

Your best bet is to look up the universities near you who offer it and contact their admissions departments. They are usually very helpful and will let you know if your qualifications ar enough to get you on the course or if you will need any additional or more recent study.

Thanks for that info - think I have to take an access to further ed course before I can get on the midwifery course as i dont think i have enough qualifications. Has anyone done this? any extra info be great :)

I did a general/combined HE access course alongside others doing the nursing/midwifery diploma...

Access would be 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time (if your local college offers that).

Get in touch with your local college(s) and see what they suggest.

thanks Joan. So you did the course at the same time as the midwifery course? or did you have to get that "in the bag" before you were allowed on it?

you'd have to do the access course first, before the degree. it is hideously competative.

have a looksy

you'd also need relevant experience so volunteering or working as an auxillary is useful.
