Switching courses - implications for funding

My DS went to York SJ last September on a Media course. He had applied for Psychology but wasn't offered a place but wanted to go with his GF who is studying to be a teacher.

His heart is not really in the course so we are looking at alternatives for him to switch onto in Psychology/Social Policy/Counselling type courses. There are 3 courses at YSJ, one at York and another extended course at York College.

The reply from York is that he would need to apply for their course and although his A levels are a bit lower that they require they will take into account his first year results and reference.

We are assuming that if he switches institutions and starts with them in September he will fall into the new highter price fees. Does anyone know if this applies if he stays at YSJ?

We're hoping that if YSJ has a place for him (and will take him) that he won't have to wait and can switch now so a) there is not too much for him to catch up on and b) he won't have an additional year to do.

The uni need to register him as "Combined studies", this means that as long as he stays at the same iinstitution he will get credit for some of the work already done and that he will be a continuing student. Not sure about if he goes elsewhere.

I think if they change uni they have to pay the higher fees whereas if they find an alternative course at the same uni they wont.
