Conditional offer, condition met, now saying "we'll let you know" - wtf?

My daughter was given a conditional offer to do a one-year arts foundation course i.e. a further education course but at a local university. The condition was that she got at least a C in one art subject. She's known through the school for some time that she got a Distinction in her BTEC Graphic Design, which is equivalent to an A at A level. A fortnight ago she got confirmation of this, and of her grades at A level - C in Psychology and D in Art. The university contacted her that day and she emailed scans of her results. As she'd got the equivalent of an A in one of her arts subjects, we presumed everything was OK.

But this morning they sent her an email asking her to send confirmation of her results to a different email address and saying they'd contact her again with a decision.

Does anyone know whether an applicant is likely to be refused a place on a foundation year despite having satisfied the condition of a conditional offer?

Well, I got hold of the admin assistant at the department, and she checked on their system and my daughter's offer has been changed from conditional to unconditional. It was changed yesterday. Induction is tomorrow. < bangs head on desk >

Anyway, at least she's got a place and I've got details of when and where she has to turn up.

Apparently they've had to move offices and their systems have been upgraded. As the asssistant said, not the best of timing. She intimated that the admissions process this year has not been up to their usual standard.

She also said she hoped the students would enjoy the induction day so much that they would forget about the bad experience with admission. Does this perhaps suggest that other parents/students have been less restrained than me and have been making angry/anguished phone calls?

I tell you what, though, it's going to have to be a farking amazing induction day.

Am so pleased! I found the foundation year so inspiring, a real chance to have a go at everything before making big decisions.. I really hope your DD enjoys it as much as i did Smile

JK, I think she'll have a blast. She has a subject in mind that she wants to study further, but is also looking forward to photography, and I'll bet there'll be other things she hasn't even thought of yet that she'll enjoy. That's the main reason why I was so worried about the possibility they were going to refuse her a place.
