Funding for Masters

Hi,
I'm looking at studying part time for a Masters in Psychology.

I have a first class degree and can get onto the course, but I'm not sure I can afford the fees (around £2800 per year for two years).

The university is not currently offering any funding, and I am rapidly losing hope that I will be able to enrol this year.

Does anyone know of any funding available, perhaps for older students, or mothers, or anything which might help me?

Thanks
x

Without knowing where you are in the country, it's difficult. However, if you're in a deprived area you may find there are bits of funding available for people who're getting qualifications - they job centre might (possibly) know. Have you asked the university if they know of other sources of funding?

You may well be able to get a career development loan from the bank, though I appreciate that's not what you asked and may not be what you want.

Sorry I can't be more help.

I thought Masters were funded by Career Development Loans.

When DD was looking onto it last year there was a number to phone and she was then sent an application pack. Think there were only 2 banks offering the scheme at that time and, as she had been working, she was expected to pay part of the fees herself.

Black - usually they're funded with normal government body funding, same as PhDs, but it's very competitive and hard to get, so sometimes universities and big companies have pots of money. I know people who're funded by, for example, a local organization for heritage in the area, and a university fund set up for students who can also teach a particular subject part-time.

Loans don't have to be the only way to go.

Thanks LRD - don't think I'll encourage her to look again though!

Can't you get a student loan?

Sad It is really tough - sorry she's not had luck with it black. It does annoy me that it seems such a lottery whether or not you happen to hear about the more random opportunities - and whether you're in the right bit of the country.

Hope she's doing something else fun though.

NT - student loans are for undergraduates.
