My dss who is in uni has told me you can get an independant learners grant if your over 25.

Is this correct? and could someone please help with more info on this. Will this be cut when the new fess are introduced?

Ah it may be called a maintenance grant? The net gives very confusing answers. My dss stated that if you were over 25 and were indepenent your household earnings were not taken into account just your earnings.

But on direct.govs student calculator it does not say anything about this. He must know what he is talking about as he got the grant and has done for the past two years of studying.

Anyone have an idea please?

Is this for you or for your DS? As I understand it, your parents' income isn't taken into account if you're over 25, and you can get the maintenance grant, as you're considered to be independent. I think your own income is still considered though - my friend who is in her 40s didn't get any extra help funding her undergrad. degree and she said it was because her husband earned too much (was two years ago though so may be different now).

Sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks littledragon, thats what I thought. It is for myself, just like your friend my partner earns too much but we dont share money so unfortunately I dont qualify. Just thought i'd check this out as he was adamant.

Oh, what a shame. I was hoping for your sake too - still might be worth checking on the government education site in case there's any kind of funding out there.

Thanks little dragon will do
