I am 39 and have just applied to start an Access course in September and ultimately would like to go on and do a degree in Psychology. I have only ever been able to get fairly low paid admin jobs because I only have a handful of 'O'levels and would love to have a better future to look forward to. If I do this course I would give up work (redundancy on cards in near future anyway). My husband is a fairly low wage earner too and between us get quite a high level of tax credits. Question is would I be entitled to any sort of grant while i study and would I get course fees paid? Without financial help I won't be able to pursue this but haven't a clue how it all works. Any advice would be gratefully received! thanks

In the current climate, if you've got a job then hold on to it! Do part time/home course around your job and if u get made redundant least you'll get a pay out!

I looked into Access but there is no grant available to cover it. Don't know about course fees though. I went with the OU in the end which was fully funded and I was given £400 for a laptop as we are on a low income.

Also, the Unis I have applied to this year have told me their preference is for students to have studied with the OU rather than through Access.
