I know there are a few of us who are returning to education in the near future. I thought it would be nice for us to have a space to be terrified together, get a few ideas and lots of support. If there are some of you out there who have been here in the past and made it through your advice would be very welcome.

So, I start OU course MU123 (maths) in February with a hope of eventually completing an IT based degree in the next 5 or so years, anyone else?

CHrist Almighty.

My brain is mush. Nothing is what I thought it was. Social Pscyhology is messing with my head.

And I am procrastinating because I am intimidated by the big words.

Normantebbit · 01/02/2011 16:17

I have just used the words epistemology, ontology and paradigm, I'm not sure what they mean but they sound bloody impressive.

TinyDiamond · 02/02/2011 09:21

Normantebbit are you doing DD201??
Sounds familiar. Oh no just saw that it is social psychology you are doing. Those big words get me every time!

Anybody doing History with OU? I am this close to signing up for the October start. Am also contemplating one of the UoOxford short courses - anyone done/doing one?

Helloooooooo! I have been away for so long, no internet for nearly two weeks (borrowing a house whilst we have work done on ours) I have missed MN! Also done no work for maths for 10 days as all three boys have taken it in turns to have flu. Last one has stopped panicking me into getting up in the night to check on breathing so I can relax a little. So who is going to bully me into getting down to some work?

Get down to work liw! Bully bully bully... People on the forum and fb page have done their iCMA and TMAs! Bully bully bully bully bully.....

Grin

I've printed the TMA and done it roughly by hand. It's nothing like as bad as I expected, in fact quite easy really. The last question is a doddle and you can't get it wrong, so I think it's just the amount of detail into which you go that will get higher marks.

Get thee to thy calculator, wench!

I've done my very first ever iCMA! I've been putting it off all week as I was so scared. I even went into full avoidance mode and started scrubbing tiles in the bathroom (wtf!!).

It was EASY! It was only Unit 1 stuff, so really pretty basic stuff. (I did check a few rules and things while I was doing it though, to make sure I wasn't doing anything silly. At one point I couldn't remember how many metres in a kilometre, but I think that was panic Blush).

Anyway, done!

First tutorial. Good time had by all! A few things are much clearer to me now. We covered negative numbers, surds and powers.

Is anyone completing the ou "child hood and early years". Would you need to be working in a nursery or have weekly access to observe play to complete this? Alternatively could you do NVQ and base your work on previous work. I'm now in an office and although I'm helping out at a drop-in session the same children don't come each week.

Jux · 01/03/2011 09:20

seekinginspiration, I'm not and have no idea!

Just got the result of my first iCMA - 100%!!!!! Hurray; something went into my poor sad little brain Grin
